Phú Quý Island is about 120km away from Phan Thiết city. It’s been open to foreigners since 2020, but not many folks know about this hidden gem due to Covid. There’s no airport on the island, so the only way to get there is by taking a ferry ride from Phan Thiết city.
How to get to Phu Quy island?
If you’re heading from HCMC to Phú Quý Island, hop on a bus to Phan Thiết city.
Vietnamese often buy bus tickets at https://vexere.com, but some local bus companies might not have English-speaking staff, so it could be a bit tricky for foreigners.
Foreign visitors, the best convenient is to buy tickets at https://12go.asia/ because this combines bus tickets and ferry tickets. Or I suggest hitting up a travel agent in the city, and they’ll sort you out with a bus ride from HCMC to Phan Thiết city.
Local bus: 360-400k VND/person/round ticket (~$16 USD ~ €15 EUR)
Minibus: 600-700k VND/person/round ticket (~$24-28 USD ~ €22-26 EUR)
How to get to Phu Quy island from Phan Thiet city ⛴️
The ferry ride from Phan Thiết city to Phú Quý Island is about 2.5 hours. You can buy ferry tickets via KLOOK (my favorite ferry, clean WC)
There are 4 ferry companies, with ticket prices ranging from 350-400k VND/person/one-way ( ~$14-16 USD ~ €13-15 EUR):
Superdong
Phú Quý express
Trưng Trắc ferry
Chấn Kha ferry
They usually depart from Phan Thiết between 6 am – 8 am, so I’d suggest spending a night in Phan Thiết, checking out the Jeep tour in Mũi Né, and then heading to the island early the next morning
